Can you imagine an Ireland where women and child are free from violence and abuse?
That is what we’re aiming to achieve.
We are incredibly honoured that the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins is the Patron of our organisation. To mark International Women’s Day in 2016, the President co-hosted a HeForShe and ManUp Event in Áras an Uachtaráin at which he said:
‘All of society is flawed if gender violence is allowed to occur; is tolerated; and if an intolerable silence prevails around this grave issue.’
His interest in women’s rights and equality and commitment to addressing the issue of violence against women is truly commendable. To read more about the event click here.
Together, we can make Ireland the safest country in the world for women and children. How are we going to do that? By changing culture and transforming the response to domestic violence.
Safe Ireland has a clear ambition: we want to end domestic violence and make Ireland the safest country in the world for women and children. Over recent years, we’ve made significant strides to make that a reality.
Our work focuses on a number of areas including: carrying out research; informing public policy; increasing capacity; raising public awareness, primary prevention; and working with frontline services.
Safe Ireland currently employs 19 staff who are responsible for the day-to-day management of the organisation’s affairs and programme delivery.
Safe Ireland is committed to being as effective and transparent as possible.
An important step in making Ireland the safest place in the world for women and children, is raising awareness of the problem of abuse. The media play a key role in that. This section provides journalists with the information that they need to fairly and accurately report the issue.
