Susan McKay is a journalist, author and documentary maker who has written and broadcast extensively about violence against women and children. Her book “Sophia’s Story” is the biography of child abuse survivor Sophia McColgan, and she also wrote “Without Fear”, a history of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. She made a documentary with Wildfire Films about the murder of women by their partners. She was a founder of the Belfast Rape Crisis Centre in the 1980s, and was CEO of the National Women’s Council from 2009 to 2012 when she resigned in protest at government funding cuts. She chaired the Irish EU Observatory on VAW. She recently worked with Suzanne Connolly to break Suzanne’s story in the Irish Times. She also writes for the Guardian, the New York Times and the London Review of Books, and is writing a new book about the Irish border.
