Ethos/Main Aims of Organisation:

Aoibhneas Women’s Refuge is committed to providing secure crisis accommodation, relevant information, emotional support, Counselling and an outreach service to all women and children residents and callers to the helpline as required. The refuge promotes a philosophy of empowerment, unconditional respect, sensitivity and strict confidentiality viv a vis both residents and callers at all times.

The refuge houses 10 purpose-built family units with their own kitchen and bathroom; a children’s playroom; a large kitchen and dining area and a communal lounge.

Services currently available at the refuge include the provision of emotional support; advice on practical considerations such as legal, housing and welfare issues; referrals to outside agencies; and Counselling from qualified and accredited practitioners. Aoibhneas also employs an outreach worker to provide support to women and their children once they move on from refuge.

Sonas offers support, refuge and housing to women and children made homeless because of domestic and gender-based violence.

The Sonas mission statement is:
….to provide high quality housing support and refuge services to women and children affected by domestic violence, empowering them to regain control over all aspects of their lives.

Women’s Aid provides direct support services and information to women experiencing male violence and abuse. This work underpins and informs all other goals and actions of the organisation. We are also a feminist, political and campaigning organisation committed to the elimination of violence and abuse of women through effecting political, cultural and social change. Women’s Aid works from the principles of empowerment, collective action, self-help and mutual aid, inclusion and equality. Women’s Aid recognises the diversity of women’s lives and aims to be accessible to all women.

Freeda Outreach Service

Freeda (Free from Domestic Abuse) is a new free and confidential outreach service available to women experiencing domestic abuse living in the county.

The trained and experienced support worker will meet you by appointment wherever it suits you. At the meeting you can talk about your situation, get emotional support, get information and discuss options. The support worker will always be focused on your safety and well being. If you are not sure what you want to do, the worker will not put pressure on you to make a decision.

The support worker will also do court accompaniment.

The service is by appointment only from Monday – Wednesday from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

This service is funded through the Southside Partnership, supported by SAVE (Southside Addressing Violence Effectively) and women4women network dlr. It is complementing the countywide Women’s Programme. Women will also be supported by the outreach worker to access education, training and counselling or/and engage in social and cultural activities.
