SAFE Ireland Code of Governance Principles and Policies
The Board of SAFE Ireland has adopted a Code of Governance Principles which comprises of 5 overarching principles each with key policies as follows:
Principle 1. Leading SAFE Ireland organisation
Policy 1.1: SAFE Ireland is committed to having an up to date and relevant strategic plan in place for the organisation which reflects an agreed vision, purpose and values for the organisation.
Policy 1.2: SAFE Ireland is committed to developing, resourcing, monitoring and evaluating an annual plan to make sure that the SAFE IRELAND organisation achieves its stated purpose.
Policy 1.3: SAFE Ireland is committed to managing, supporting and holding to account staff, volunteers and all who act on behalf of the organisation.
Principle 2. Exercising control over SAFE Ireland organisation
Policy 2.1: SAFE Ireland is committed to identifying and complying with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Policy 2.2: SAFE Ireland is committed to making sure there are appropriate internal financial and management controls in place.
Policy 2.3: SAFE Ireland is committed to identifying major risks for the organisation and deciding ways of managing the risks.
Principle 3. Being transparent and accountable
Policy 3.1: SAFE Ireland is committed to identifying those who have a legitimate interest in the work of our organisation (stakeholders) and making sure there is regular and effective communication with them about our organisation.
Policy 3.2: SAFE Ireland is committed to responding to stakeholders’ questions or views about the work of the SAFE Ireland organisation and its operations.
Policy 3.3: SAFE Ireland is committed to encouraging and enabling the engagement of those who benefit from our organisation in the planning and decision-making of the organisation.
Principle 4. Working effectively
Policy 4.1: SAFE Ireland is committed to making sure that the SAFE Ireland Board, individual board members, committees, staff and volunteers understand their role, legal duties and delegated responsibility for decision-making.
Policy 4.2: SAFE Ireland is committed to ensuring that SAFE Ireland exercises collective responsibility through board meetings that are efficient and effective.
Policy 4.3: SAFE Ireland is committed to making sure that there is suitable board recruitment, development and retirement processes in place.
Principle 5. Behaving with integrity
Policy 5.1: SAFE Ireland is committed to being honest, fair and independent.
Policy 5.2: SAFE Ireland Board of Directors is committed to understanding, declaring and managing conflicts of interest and conflicts of loyalties.
Policy 5.3: SAFE Ireland is committed to protecting and promoting the reputation of the SAFE Ireland organisation.
