SAFE Ireland has commenced a national information campaign targeted at Medical Professionals. SAFE Ireland have teamed up with the Rape Crisis Network Ireland in an information campaign targeted at medical professionals.
Recognising the indicators and signs of abuse and sexual violence, providing an empathetic and confidential practice environment, being aware of services and supports available (both local and national) and giving appropriate support service information are key to what a many medical professionals can offer to patients/clients.
Supporting a patient/client in the context of domestic and/or sexual violence includes providing pertinent information on services and resources available and encouraging the patient to seek support and help when she wishes to.
Over 20,000 leaflets detailing information about the specialist services for victims of domestic and/or sexual violence will distributed to GP’s, GP practice nurses, Social Workers, Public Health Nurses and Health Centre’s throughout Ireland. The campaign has been part resourced by COSC the national office for domestic, sexual and gender based violence.
